First Indigenous vaccination clinic in Waterloo Region

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Today, the first of two pop-up Indigenous vaccination clinics in Waterloo Region will be immunizing members of the First Nation, Métis and Inuit community. The vaccination clinic at Anishnabeg Outreach, 236 Woodhaven Road in Kitchener, is open March 19-20 for Indigenous residents who are interested in receiving their vaccine in a culturally appropriate setting.

First Nation, Métis and Inuit residents who indicated they would prefer vaccination in partnership with an Indigenous organization have been offered the opportunity to attend Anishnabeg Outreach. An Indigenous elder will be available to support members of the community.

“Anishnabeg Outreach created the region’s first centre for Indigenous healing. We are so thrilled to be able to host the first vaccination site for Indigenous people living in the region,” said Stephen Jackson, CEO of Anishnabeg Outreach. “Through partnership with the region, Ontario Health West and other Indigenous organizations, we have created a culturally appropriate and reflective space for Indigenous people to receive the COVID-19 vaccinations. Our team of navigators, staff and elder have created a welcoming experience for all Indigenous people who wish to get vaccinated. We hope all Indigenous people who are interested will be able to experience the new centre we built for them.”

Another pop-up vaccination clinic for the First Nation, Métis and Inuit community is being held at 150 Frederick Street (Regional Headquarters) in Kitchener on March 24-25. Members of the Indigenous Working Group of Wellbeing Waterloo Region have come together to facilitate the opening of both vaccination clinics.

First Nation, Métis and Inuit residents of Waterloo Region who want more information about these two clinics are welcome to contact Anishnabeg Outreach, The Healing of the Seven Generations, or the KW Urban Native Wigwam Project for more information.
