Final asphalt paving scheduled for UpTown Waterloo, June 6-10
Waterloo Region – GrandLinq has advised the Region of Waterloo that they will complete final asphalt paving in UpTown Waterloo next week. This is an important milestone for the ION light rail transit (LRT) project.
The work will see the final layer of asphalt placed on Caroline, Allen and King, June 6-10, in four separate, 24-hour full road closures. A breakdown of the areas impacted each day is included below.
During this work, GrandLinq crews plan to place asphalt during the day and stripe the road at night. The work is subject to construction constraints and weather conditions. It should be noted that final asphalt cannot be placed in wet or humid weather. If this occurs, the work will be re-scheduled. If there is a weather delay, it will be communicated along with the revised timing.
Day 1: June 6 – Caroline (Erb to Allen)
- Full road closure, beginning at 7 a.m. for 24 hours
- Caroline, from Erb to Allen
o Work does not include the Caroline/Erb intersection
o Intersections impacted: Father David Bauer/Caroline; Willis Way/Caroline; Alexandra/Caroline; William/Caroline; Fullerton/Caroline; Norman/Caroline; Freemont/Caroline
Day 2: June 7 – Allen (Caroline to King) and King (Allen to William)
- Full road closure, beginning at 7 a.m. for 24 hours
- Allen, from Caroline to King
o Intersections impacted: Caroline/Allen; King/Allen
o On-street parking on Allen will not be available during this time
- King, Allen to William
o Work does not include the King/William intersection
o Intersections impacted: Allen/King; George/King; Kuntz Lane/King
o On-street parking on King will not be available during this time
Day 3: June 8 – King (William to the LRT crossing)
- Full road closure, beginning at 7 a.m. for 24 hours
- King, from William to the LRT crossing/railway tracks near the public square
o Intersections impacted: William/King, Willis Way/King
o On-street parking on King will not be available during this time
Day 4: June 9 – King (Allen to Union)
- Full road closure, beginning at 7 a.m. for 24 hours
- King, from Allen to Union
o Work does not include the Allen/King or Union/King intersections
o Intersections impacted: John/King
o On-street parking on King will not be available during this time
