Emergency Preparedness Week is May 1 to 7

Waterloo Region is encouraging residents to “Be Prepared for Anything”

Waterloo Region – National Emergency Preparedness Week is being held next week, (May 1^st to 7^th). Local municipalities and emergency services partners are encouraging Waterloo Region residents to “Be Prepared for Anything”. Emergencies can happen at any time and without warning. With some preparation upfront, you can respond quickly and protect yourself, your family, and your community.

“Everyone has a role to play in an emergency. This year’s National theme for the week, ‘Be Prepared for Anything’ encourages everyone to build those foundational tools like 72-hour emergency kits, evacuations plans, emergency contact lists, etc. so that we are all ready to act calmly and quickly. Being prepared ensures that our community continues to grow ever more resilient in emergency response.” - Region of Waterloo Emergency Management Office

You are invited to continue to build your preparedness toolkit via virtual events and educational tips available to residents. Some items you can access include:

A City of Cambridge public education campaign from May 1 to 7 on 91.5 The Beat and 107.5 Dave Rocks with a grand prize at the end of the week
The Kitchener Fire Department invites you to watch their virtual truck tours and safety tips on the City of Kitchener’s YouTube channel
Waterloo Fire Rescue will host a virtual emergency preparedness session on Wednesday May 4th from 19:00-20:00. Those interested can email fire@waterloo.ca for registration information
Township of Wilmot public awareness campaign from May 1 to 7 on Wilmot’s Facebook and Twitter platforms
Preparedness tips on www.alertwr.ca
