Elmira Maple Syrup Festival has a history

Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo Archives announced today it has received the archives of the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival.

There are festival records starting from 1965 to the present and include committee meeting minutes, correspondence, promotional material, festival guides, newspaper clippings and graphic material. The records document the growth of the Festival from 10,000 guests in 1965 to 66,529 guests in 2000, making it the world’s largest maple syrup festival according to Guinness World Records.

“Preserving the tradition of the Festival and getting organized before the upcoming 50th anniversary has become a priority of our committee,” says Ken Jessop, Festival Chair.

“Long-term preservation of the festival’s records is important to the community,” says Ken Seiling, Regional Chair. “Through Region of Waterloo Archives, photos and records will be available online and accessible to the public.”

Descriptions of the archives are accessible on the Region of Waterloo Archives database Archives Online http://row.minisisinc.com.

The Archives is the official home of records created by the: County of Waterloo (1829-1972); Region of Waterloo (1973-present); Township of Woolwich (1851-present); and Town of Elmira (1886-1972).
