Curbside yard waste collection in its final weeks

Region of Waterloo - From March until the end November, the Region of Waterloo offers bi-weekly curbside yard waste collection.  This seasonal collection program is soon coming to an end.

The final pick-up week for yard waste collection by area is:

  • Cambridge and Waterloo – week of Nov. 14 - 18
  • Kitchener, Townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley and Woolwich – week of Nov. 21- 25
  • Wilmot Township – week of Nov. 28 – Dec. 2

Yard waste is collected bi-weekly on your regular garbage day.  To ensure yard waste is collected, residents should:

  • Place yard waste out to the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day.
  • Make sure cans, bags or bundles do not weight more than 23 kg (50 lbs.).
  • Tie bundles of branches not more than 92 cm (3 ft.) in length.
  • Ensure yard waste is in paper bags or cans with a bright, coloured ribbon on the handle, not in plastic bags.  Plastic bags will not be collected.

Yard waste drop-off bins are open all year round at the Cambridge and Waterloo waste management sites.

Yard waste includes grass clippings, tree branches, pine cones, garden material and other compostable yard waste.

Yard waste is naturally composted into rich, black compost and given back to our community.  Last year, over 13,000 tonnes of yard waste was collected at the curb and composted. This is an excellent diversion program to recycle yard waste and divert away from the landfill.

The collection of fall loose leaves raked to the curb is not a Regional program and is provided by the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo.

Information about yard waste collection or any other waste management program can be found on the Region’s website at www.regionofwaterloo.ca/waste or the front green section of the telephone book or by calling customer service number at 519-883-5100.
