Curbside collection of wind storm tree debris

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo can help homeowners cleaning up tree debris from the wind storm through our bi-weekly yard waste collection program. In order to be collected with yard waste, tree debris must be prepared properly.

To prepare tree debris for curbside collection, branches:

  • must be under 92 centimetres (3 feet) in length
  • must be less than 7.5 centimetres (3 inches) in diameter
  • must be bundled and tied with twine and weigh less than 23 kilograms (50 pounds)
  • may also be placed out in kraft paper bags or a garbage can with a Region Yard Waste sticker or brightly coloured ribbon identifying it as yard waste. Branches in plastic bags will not be collected.
  • must be out by 7 a.m. on the regular collection day.

Yard waste collection is every other week, on your regular collection day:

  • During the week of May 7 to 11, yard waste will be collected in the city of Kitchener and in the townships.
  • During the week of May 14 to 18, yard waste will be collected in the cities of Cambridge and Waterloo.

The full 2018 yard waste schedule is available on the Region’s website at www.regionofwaterloo.ca/waste. Residents can also refer to their 2018 Waste Collection Calendar.

Garbage trucks used to collect yard waste are not equipped for large branch or tree cleanup.  Any tree debris larger than noted above cannot be collected through the Region’s curbside yard waste program.

Tree debris can also be brought to the Cambridge (201 Savage Drive) or Waterloo (925 Erb Street West, Gate 2) transfer stations for disposal.

Tipping fees for residential loads that contain only brush/branches and other tree debris from the May wind storm will be waived from Tuesday, May 8 until Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

More detailed information on our waste programs can be found on our website at www.regionofwaterloo.ca/waste, the 2018 Waste Collection Calendar, or by calling customer service at 519-575-4400.
