Curbside collection of ice storm debris
Waterloo Region – As residents begin to cleanup from the recent ice storm, the Region of Waterloo can help homeowners through the bi-weekly yard waste collection program. In order to be collected with yard waste, tree debris must be prepared properly.
To prepare tree debris for curbside collection, branches:
- must be under 92 cm (3 feet) in length, and less than 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter.
- must be bundled and tied with twine and weigh less than 23 kg (50 pounds).
- may also be placed out in kraft paper bags or a garbage can with a Region Yard Waste sticker or brightly coloured ribbon identifying it as yard waste. Branches in plastic bags will not be collected.
- must be out by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day.
Yard waste collection is every other week, on your regular collection day:
- During the week of March 28 to April 1, yard waste will be collected in the city of Kitchener, and township of Wilmot.
- During the week of April 4 to 8, yard waste will be collected in the cities of Cambridge and Waterloo, and the townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley and Woolwich.
The full 2016 yard waste schedule for Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo is available on the Region’s website at www.regionofwaterloo.ca/waste. Township residents should refer to their 2014 Waste Collection Calendar.
Garbage trucks used to collect yard waste cannot be used for large branch or tree cleanup, as oversized branches can damage the collection equipment. Any tree debris larger than noted above cannot be collected through the Region’s curbside yard waste program.
Residential tree debris can also be brought to the Cambridge (201 Savage Drive) or Waterloo (925 Erb Street West, Gate 2) transfer stations for disposal. Tipping fees for loads that contain only residential brush/branches and tree debris from the ice storm will be waived from Tuesday, March 29 through Saturday, April 9.
Additional information on all waste collection and diversion programs can be found on the Region’s website at www.regionofwaterloo.ca/waste or in the township collection calendars. If you have any questions regarding collection, please call customer service at 519-575-4400.
