COVID-19 vaccine pre-registration opens for more Phase Two groups

Waterloo Region – As of March 30, adults in the 60-69 age group and three more priority groups are eligible to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine in Waterloo Region. The Province has identified these groups as next in order of priority for the Phase Two rollout of the vaccine.

The eligible priority groups include faith leaders who are in close contact with persons and families in the following circumstances:

  • End-of-life care
  • Care of the deceased, funerals, bathing or other ceremonies with direct contact with deceased persons
  • Home visits to unwell persons
  • Pastoral care in hospitals, long-term care, retirement homes or other vulnerable settings

Residents and frontline staff in the following high-risk settings are also eligible to pre-register for the vaccine. Many of the following groups will be booked directly into mobile clinics:

  • Supportive housing
  • Developmental services, including supported independent living
  • Emergency homeless shelters
  • Other homeless populations not in shelters
  • Mental health and addictions congregate settings, including supportive housing
  • Homes for special care
  • Employer-provided housing for farm workers, including temporary foreign workers
  • Adult correctional facilities
  • Violence against women shelters
  • Anti-human trafficking residences
  • Children’s residential facilities, including group homes and foster homes
  • Indigenous healing and wellness
  • Youth justice facilities
  • Bail beds

Additionally, one essential caregiver for residents in the following high-risk congregate settings can now pre-register for the vaccine:

  • Developmental services, including supported independent living
  • Mental health and addictions congregate settings, including supportive housing
  • Homes for special care
  • Children’s residential facilities, including group homes and foster homes
  • Indigenous healing and wellness

Members of the public who are 60+ and those who fall into any of the listed priority groups are strongly encouraged to pre-register for the vaccine now, and when they receive notification that it’s their turn to book an appointment, to do so right away.

Anyone who needs help to pre-register online is encouraged to reach out to a family member or friend for help. The quickest way to get an appointment is to provide an email or text (mobile phone number) when pre-registering for the vaccine.
