COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine available for children 6 months to 5 years of age
Waterloo Region – Starting Thursday, September 29, families of children from 6 months to 5 years of age can book an appointment for their child to receive the Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19. Parents who want to get their children vaccinated are encouraged to contact their family doctor or visit their local pharmacy.
The Pfizer vaccine is three-dose series administered eight weeks (56 days) apart. The Moderna vaccine for this age group has already been approved and is a two-dose series. Children should receive the same vaccine for their second dose, and third dose in the case of the Pfizer vaccine.
Any children who have recently tested positive for COVID-19 or are displaying symptoms should wait eight weeks before starting the series of vaccinations. NACI also recommends that the COVID-19 vaccine not be given to children under 5 years of age on the same day as other vaccines.
Parents who cannot access the vaccine from their family doctor or local pharmacy can book an appointment for their child at the regional vaccination clinic at 99 Regina Street in Waterloo. Schedule an appointment using the provincial online booking system: covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine.
