COVID-19 contact notification for Algarve Restaurant between October 28 to November 4, 2020

Waterloo Region – Region of Waterloo Public Health is notifying people who visited Algarve Restaurant, located at 248 Stirling Avenue South, Kitchener, about a potential exposure to COVID-19. Currently, six confirmed cases have been associated with this setting. Approximately 175 individuals may have been exposed.

Individuals who attended Algarve Restaurant between October 28 to November 4, 2020 may have been exposed to COVID-19.

As a precaution, Public Health is advising anyone who attended during these times to monitor themselves for symptoms for 14 days after their last visit and to seek testing. Public Health recommends individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms to visit the Ontario Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 self-assessment tool for recommendations.

Public Health has not identified risk to anyone who attended Algarve Restaurant outside of these dates. Public Health continues to work with Algarve Restaurant to ensure all measures are in place. Algarve Restaurant has been co-operative with Public Health and has voluntarily closed the restaurant at this time.

There is evidence that a series of settings are connected where COVID-19 spread from a social gathering, to the restaurant, and other settings. Public Health has identified and contacted high risk contacts in these other settings.

As COVID-19 continues to circulate in the community, residents are reminded to continue following public health measures:

  • Wash your hands often
  • Practice physical distancing between yourself and people outside your household
  • Wear a face covering in enclosed public places and on transit
  • Stay home if you have any symptoms, use the COVID-19 self-assessment tool and follow its directions.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
