Council to receive Multiplex Site Evaluation Task Force report
Cambridge, Ontario. Dec. 8, 2016… The Multiplex Site Evaluation Task Force will report to City Council at a Special Meeting on Monday, Dec. 12 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.
Cambridge City Council appointed a nine-member Site Evaluation Task Force to review potential sites for the Multiplex facility, based on the approved design concept. The Task Force, which is comprised of two members of Council, five members of the community and two senior staff, has been working since July.
The Task Force held extensive public consultation to determine the community’s priorities for the Multiplex location , including open houses, and online survey through EngageCambridge . They have since evaluated more than a dozen possible locations and are providing the top five scoring locations to Council for their further consideration.
“The Task Force worked together respectfully and cooperatively,” said Chair Chris Smith. “With the help of Deloitte, we followed a fair and consistent process that helped us achieve consensus on our findings.”
At the special session, Smith will present the Task Force report. A representative from the consulting firm Deloitte, which assisted the Task Force with its analysis, will also present to Council.
“On behalf of council, I want to thank the Task Force members for their time and contribution to this important initiative,” said Mayor Doug Craig. “They were dedicated to listening to public feedback and considering all options. I look forward to receiving their feedback.”
Task force members included:
- Task Force Chair, Chris Smith
- Councillor Mike Devine
- Councillor Donna Reid
- Gary Dyke, City Manager, City of Cambridge
- Elaine Brunn Shaw, City Planner
- Greg Durocher
- June Anderson
- Bill Kirby
- Penelope Price
Council will consider the task force findings as part of their decision on where to locate the Multiplex facility. There will be a number of steps to take before a final decision can be made. Potential sites will need to be studied further to understand how the approved design could be built there and what is needed to get ready for construction.
As well, there will need to be discussions with property owners. To protect the confidential information of property owners and to protect the interest of taxpayers, property acquisition discussions are held in closed session.
