Construction Notice: Sawmill Road closed from June 5 to November 23

About the project

Complete road reconstruction with new concrete curb and asphalt roadway surface, road widening, on-road cycling lanes, new sidewalk on both sides, installation of traffic signals with a southbound left turn-lane at Charles Street, and drainage and storm sewer improvements/replacement along with stormwater work. 

Timing — starts June 5

Construction will be completed in stages starting June 5 and extending through November 2023. The road will reopen over the winter 2023/2024. Construction will start again in spring 2024 and finish in early summer 2024.

Closures

Sawmill Road will be closed to through traffic from River Street to south of St. Charles Street West during this work. Only local access will be permitted. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Sawmill Road north of St. Charles Street West, including traffic on St. Charles Street West.

Detour

St Charles Street West (26) — Shantz Station Road — Eby Crest — Victoria Street North.

There may be periods during construction when traffic will need to travel on a gravel surface, as well as times when traffic will need to be controlled with flag persons.

Emergency Services (Police, Fire, Paramedics) have been notified of the construction, closures and detours to minimize any disruptions to services.

Pedestrian access

The sidewalks in this area will remain accessible during the project. Pedestrians should follow the signs as they walk through the site.

Property and business access

All businesses in the construction area remain open and accessible during construction.

Every effort will be made to maintain access to residential and business driveways in the construction area during working hours (7 a.m.–7 p.m.). Construction activities may temporarily impact access to entrances. We will provide notice of any interruption in advance as much as possible.

Please plan for some delays and travel carefully in the construction zone.  We request that when driving or walking through and around the construction zone you follow and obey the construction traffic signage for your safety and for the safety of the workers.
