Construction Notice: Northfield Drive closed, July 9 - 11

About the project

Construction of the Northfield Drive widening, between Bridge Street West and University Avenue East, is complete with the exception of some minor deficiencies and asphalt work. 

Timing — Lane closures start June 26. Full closure July 9 - 11

Lane closures will begin the week of June 26. We will start paving this section of the road the night of Sunday, July 9, for approximately three nights (weather permitting). The road will be closed from 7 p.m.–7 a.m. each night and will reopen each day at 7 a.m. The road will reopen on July 12, 2023.

Closures - Northfield Drive

Northfield Drive will be closed to through traffic from Bridge Street West to University Avenue East as follows:  

July 9, 7 p.m.–7 a.m:  Northfield Drive will be fully closed to through traffic from north of the Bridge Street West intersection to south of University Avenue East. Paving will take place on Northfield Drive from Bridge Street West to University Avenue East. The intersections of Northfield Drive and Bridge Street West and Northfield Drive and University Avenue East will remain open, with some turning movements restricted.

July 10 and July 11, 7 p.m.–7 a.m.:  Northfield Drive will be fully closed to through traffic from north of Bridge Street West to north of University Avenue East. The Northfield Drive and University Avenue East intersection will be fully closed to traffic, approaching the intersection from all directions. Paving the intersection will take place on July 10 and line painting on July 11, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. The Northfield Drive and Bridge Street West intersection will remain open, with some turning movements restricted.

Please use an alternate route from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. between July 9 and 11. Emergency Services (Police, Fire, Paramedics) have been notified of the closure to minimize any disruptions to services.

Pedestrian access

The sidewalk and multi-use trail in this area will remain accessible during the work. Pedestrians and cyclists should follow the signs.

Property and business access

Please access all businesses in the area via alternate routes during the road closures between 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Every effort will be made to maintain access to driveways in the construction area during working hours (7 a.m.–7 p.m.). Construction activities may temporarily impact access to entrances. We will provide notice of any interruption in advance as much as possible.

Please plan for some delays and travel carefully in the construction zone. We request that when driving or walking through and around the construction zone you follow and obey the construction traffic signage for your safety and for the safety of the workers.
