Construction at University and the CN railway tracks begins July 27

Waterloo Region – GrandLinq has advised the Region of Waterloo that their work at the intersection of University and the CN railway tracks will begin on or about July 27 and last up to three weeks. During this time, only one lane of traffic will be open between Philip Street and the University of Waterloo’s Ring Road, with traffic moving eastbound towards Highway 85.

Construction will generally take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, however, GrandLinq crews will work around the clock during the weekends (generally Friday to Monday). During the around the clock work, the University intersection at the CN railway tracks will be completely closed to all traffic, including pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. These extended work periods ensure trains are able to resume regular weekday service.

Detour and way-finding signage directing drivers, pedestrians and cyclists around the intersection closure will be placed prior to work commencing.
