Community invited to celebrate 175 years of Cambridge fire fighting
Cambridge, Ontario. May 26, 2017… On Saturday, June 3, the community is invited to join the Cambridge Fire Department in celebrating 175 years of service. The Galt Fire Service began in 1842, followed by Preston in 1884 and then Hespeler in 1856. Together, they joined to become the Cambridge Fire Department in 1973.
“We are proud to have been a part of this community for so long and we look forward to celebrating the history of local fire fighting with residents,” said Fire Chief Neil Main. “We hope lots of people will come and join the fun to learn more about us and our beginnings, fire safety, and even see some fire fighter demonstrations.”
The day starts with a parade of fire trucks old and new, followed by an afternoon of fun. There will be something for everyone including a bouncy castle, a kids’ activity table, antique fire trucks, T-shirts and coins for sale, and more.
The Fire Department is also announcing their partnership with the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank through the Fire to Food Bank campaign where people can bring non-perishable food to any fire hall any day of the year. The vision is to have food banks and emergency services across the county recognized as partners in helping to provide vital services to those struggling in their own community.
