City offers free snow removal service to qualifying residents this winter
The City of Cambridge is providing free snow clearing service to up to 50 qualifying residents this winter as part of the new Snow Removal Assistance Program.
“We’re happy to be able to provide this service free of charge to residents in our community most in need of support to clear their sidewalk and driveway apron,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “I know that winter maintenance can pose a significant challenge for some in our community, and this is one way we can help alleviate that strain, while at the same time ensuring our sidewalks remain accessible and safe for everyone during the winter months.”
The Snow Removal Assistance Program was created for residents who are both physically and financially unable to clear snow from their sidewalk or driveway apron during the winter months. Acceptance into the program is based on eligibility and is done on a first come, first served basis.
Approved by City Council in February 2023, the program is a partnership with Community Support Connections (CSC). CSC is responsible for the application process and determining eligibility. They maintain the list of eligible participants for the program and share it with the City.
City staff are responsible for physically removing the snow from the approved participant locations. This begins on the first snowfall after November 1 through to April 30.
