City of Cambridge reminds community of snow clearing process and parking restrictions
Cambridge, Ontario. December 23, 2016… With the winter season underway, the City of Cambridge would like to remind residents of the snow removal procedures in place to keep the roads and sidewalks safe for the whole community.
For city streets, crews clear snow based on a priority schedule of primary roads and secondary roads within six hours of a snowfall, and residential streets within 24 hours of a snowfall. Primary and secondary roads are made up of major arterial roads, collector roads and bus routes. The City has specific procedures for sidewalk clearing, snow event declarations and winter parking.
“Our snow removal procedures are in place to keep the community safe when getting around throughout the winter months,” remarks Jamie Austin, director of public works. “Our City crews do their best to clear respective roads and sidewalks as quickly and efficiently as possible. We appreciate the cooperation of the community, as we all do our part to keep roadways, sidewalks and passage ways clear and safe.”
Sidewalks
Keeping sidewalks clear and safe for all residents is a joint effort between the City and the community. The City wishes to remind property owners or occupants to be sure to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks at the front and side of their home or business within 36 hours of a snowfall. A map of City-maintained sidewalks can be found at www.cambridge.ca/winter.
For residents who are unable to clear their sidewalks due to health or mobility restrictions, the local organization, Community Support Connections, can offer support. For details call (519) 772-8787 or visit www.communitysupportconnections.org.
Snow events
The City may issue a snow event if 10 cm or more of snow is expected within 24 hours. Snow events may be cancelled or extended dependent on weather conditions. During a snow event, on-street parking is not permitted and vehicles may be ticketed and/or towed.
Residents can sign up to receive email notifications of a snow event at www.cambridge.ca/snow.
Parking during winter months
From January 1 to March 15, on-street parking is not permitted between 2:30 and6 a.m. in Cambridge. On-street parking is also not permitted at any time during a snow event or for more than three consecutive hours.
