City of Cambridge receives national award for excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting

Cambridge, Ontario. December 9, 2016… The Government Finance Officers Association honoured the City of Cambridge with the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting. The award was given for the City’s annual financial report ending December 2015.

“We’re honoured to receive this national recognition” explains Mayor Doug Craig. “This award demonstrates staffs’ commitment to openness, transparency and good governance.”

The Canadian Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (CAnFR program) encourages and assists Canadian local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements and prepare annual financial reports that model transparency and full disclosure. It is a significant accomplishment for a municipal government and its management.

“To have met the highest standards set by the GFOA (Government Finance Officers Association) really exemplifies our commitment to openness and transparency in our reporting and the budget process,” explains Steven Fairweather, Chief Financial Officer. “We’re honoured and proud to be receiving such recognition from the GFOA.

CAnFR program award submissions are reviewed by a committee of CFOA professional staff, experts in Canadian public-sector financial reporting, independent auditors, academics, and finance professionals.
