City Manager announces resignation

Cambridge, Ontario. Dec. 19, 2018… City Manager Gary Dyke submitted his resignation to Mayor Kathryn McGarry this morning to take on a new opportunity with the City of Kingston.

“This is not a decision I made easily. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here in Cambridge and I take great pride in what we have accomplished,” Mr. Dyke said in an announcement to staff.  “The City of Cambridge is a strong, high-performing organization that is blessed with an outstanding, well-respected and committed workforce in partnership with an excellent senior leadership group.”

On behalf of City Council, Mayor McGarry thanked Mr. Dyke for his passion and contribution to the City Cambridge.

“In his time here, Gary has helped modernize our city’s administration and established strong systems and policies that form a solid foundation we can build on as we move forward,” she said. “Gary has had a major impact on this city, both in building relationships with key stakeholders in the region and around the world, and by focusing on economic development opportunities to attract people and new investment to Cambridge. I am grateful for his guidance in this transition and wish him well in his future endeavors."

Former Mayor Doug Craig - who, along with City Council, hired Mr. Dyke in September 2013 - described Mr. Dyke as a community builder and true leader.  He said he worked hard to promote the City of Cambridge as a progressive leader in terms of demonstrating best practices, community engagement, modernizing services, and finding innovative solutions to municipal challenges.

“From his leadership on policy to large capital projects, Gary made City Hall a much more efficient place,” said Mr. Craig.  “He is very good at seeing the big picture, moving projects forward and being creative in terms of navigating a solution to an issue or seizing an opportunity. We have much to be thankful for in terms of his contribution to the growth and evolution of Cambridge.”

Mr. Dyke will remain at City Hall until February 1, 2019 to assist Mayor and Council with the transition.
