Cambridge, Ontario - On Saturday, local MPP Brian Riddell met with the City of Cambridge to celebrate a $1.36 million upgrade to the Ed Newland pool, which was partly made possible thanks to a $376,400 Community Building Fund - Capital grant awarded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The upgrades included capital improvements and repairs to the City’s outdoor pool, allowing for extended use and community recreation.

“The City of Cambridge is most deserving of this Trillium grant as it strives to offer residents superior recreational facilities,” said Brian Riddell, MPP for Cambridge. “The grand re-opening of the Ed Newland pool has been eagerly anticipated by its regular guests, and I’m confident the improvements made will attract new swimming enthusiasts from across the community.”

The renovation of the 90-year-old pool, located at 515 William Street, includes a graduated entry, new pool liner, new deck area and updated circulation system. A slide, climbing wall and water features are still be incorporated. The updates support the City’s objective to foster a community with heart, where everyone belongs and is cared for as outlined in the Cambridge Connected Strategic Plan.

“I am looking forward to celebrating together with the community,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “These are much-needed updates, but we are not done yet. We look forward to the work continuing to make this facility accessible for everyone and ensure many more years of summer fun.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations celebrates 40 years of grant-making in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities. Last year, OTF invested over $110M into 1,022 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund. Visit otf.ca to learn more.

"The impact of this OTF grant cannot be overstated,” said Rachel Fraser, Manager of Sport Recreation and Culture. “It has allowed necessary renovations to be made so we can now serve our community better. We also want to congratulate the OTF on 40 years of granting and building healthy and vibrant communities across the province.”
