City Council unanimously ratifies collective agreement with CUPE Local 32

Cambridge, Ontario. (June 19, 2023) – Tonight, Cambridge City Council unanimously ratified the four-year agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 32, the union representing the City’s approximately 160 outside workers. This follows the ratification by CUPE Local 32 members on June 13.

“The contract that has been achieved is a testament to the collective efforts from both sides,” said Director of Human Resources, Andrew Martin. “It reflects the spirit of mutual understanding and compromise that is essential for fostering positive labor relations. The provisions and improvements outlined in the contract, including fair wages, enhanced benefits, and improved working conditions, demonstrate our shared commitment to creating a conducive and thriving work environment.”

The details of the agreement include various benefit enhancements and improved language. It also includes wage increases as follows:

  • 2022 – 2.5%.
  • 2023 – 2.1%,
  • 2024 – Implementation of a new 3-step wage grid
  • 2025 – 2.5%

“I’m pleased that we came to a fair agreement in these negotiations,” said Cambridge Mayor Jan Liggett. “I’d like to thank our outside workers who deliver the critical services our residents need to keep our city moving every single day.”
