City and inside workers reach tentative agreement
Cambridge, Ont., February 23, 2017 – After approximately seven hours of negotiations yesterday, the City of Cambridge and CUPE Local 1882, representing inside workers, reached a tentative collective agreement. Full City services are expected to be restored on Friday.
“We’re pleased that the City and the Union reached an agreement last night,” said Cambridge City Manager Gary Dyke. “We look forward to restoring full services to our community, and welcoming back our friends and colleagues. We want to thank the community for their cooperation and patience over the past several weeks as we’ve worked with both CUPE Locals. The City remained committed to bargaining process to protect taxpayers’ interests and meet the needs of all of our staff in a fair and reasonable way. We believe that is exactly what we have achieved.”
The Union and Cambridge City Council will vote to ratify the tentative agreement later today. Negotiations with the inside workers’ union had been ongoing for 14 months, since their contract ended on December 31, 2015.
