Celebrate Waste Reduction Week with a tour of the Waterloo landfill

Waterloo Region – Groups and individuals across Canada are encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to the environment during Waste Reduction Week, October 21 – 27, 2013. Take simple steps to ease the burden on our local landfill: plan a waste-free lunch, donate gently used household items, or decide to use the green bin as much as possible. To learn more about Waste Reduction Week activities, visit www.wrwcanada.com

To celebrate Waste Reduction Week, the Region of Waterloo is offering free public tours on Saturday, October 26 at the Waterloo landfill site. Residents can take a guided tour of the landfill tipping face and the Nyle Ludolph Materials Recycling Centre, to see what happens to the stuff they put to the curb. Residents can take a closer look at recycling, garbage and green bin collection trucks, and landfill vehicles. Displays featuring the blue box, green bin and other waste diversion programs will also be available.

Bus tours will run on the hour and the half hour and are suitable for all ages. Donation of a non-perishable food item or cash donation for the Food Banks is appreciated.
