Celebrate the best in Cambridge arts and culture; tickets on sale now for the Bernice Adams Award

Cambridge, Ontario. May 16, 2018... The 36th annual Bernice Adams Memorial Awards will be held on Thursday, May 24 at the Galt Country Club, 750 Coronation Blvd, Cambridge. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the event beginning at 7:30 p.m. The awards celebrate those whose talents and passion for the arts have enriched Cambridge culture.

"Recognizing those with a passion for the arts who actively contribute to the community is what makes the Bernice Adams Memorial Awards so unique," said Paige Corriveau, Chair of the Cambridge Cultural Awards Committee. "The awards are a way for us as a city to come together and congratulate those who put their artistic talents to use making Cambridge a great place to live, work and play."

The 2018 Bernice Adams Memorial Award finalists are:

  • Waterloo Region Record Communications/Literary Arts – Jane Barfoot, Suzanne Bertolas, Carol Glover, Christine Hillis, Bill Kirby, Tara Mondou, and Dave Weber.
  • Music – Joe Lopez, Mike Meacher, Dennis Napper, and Sabatino Vacca.
  • Performing Arts – Amy Cruickshank, Autumn Fernandes, and Theresa Kroetsch.
  • Visual Arts – Laura Cook, Robin Crank, and Carina Francioso.
  • Outstanding Youth – Chloe Distel, Mya Kidson, and Southwood Secondary School Drama program.

The Addison Women’s Choir has been selected for the 2018 Special Trustee Award.  The choir was originally called the Addison Consort Singers and was founded in 1982 by the late Duncan Addison. It has matured into a full-range choir delivering musical happiness to the community and beyond.

Advance tickets to the event are $20 can be purchased at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts, 60 Dickson Street, until May 19.  After May 19, the ticket price will be $40. Admission includes refreshments and entertainment by Conor Gains. A fundraising auction helps to support the Bernice Adams Memorial Trust Fund for local bursaries and scholarships.

The Bernice Adams Memorial Awards were established to honour the efforts of former city councillor Bernice Adams in advancing the creative community in Cambridge. Winners of the awards are chosen by the Cambridge Cultural Awards Committee; a volunteer committee who works to recognize Cambridge's outstanding contributors in the development of arts and culture.
