Candidate nominations close for 2023 Ward 1 By-Election

Cambridge, Ontario. (September 29, 2023).  Candidate nominations for the 2023 By-Election closed today at 2 p.m., September 29, 2023. 

This afternoon, the City Clerk certified all nominations received during the period commencing September 5, 2023, and completed on Nomination Day, September 29, 2023, at 2 p.m. Pursuant to Section 35 of the Municipal Election Act, 1996, the certification process requires all candidates to file all necessary papers, declarations and fees. The City Clerk confirmed that they are satisfied that the certified candidates are qualified and that their nominations satisfy all requirements of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 as eligible candidates.

There are four (4) candidates running for the office of Councillor in Ward 1. The certified list of candidates in Cambridge is available on the City’s candidate information page. The City provides this information for all candidates to share their information with Ward 1 residents and encourage everyone to stay informed on the by-election.

The City has made every effort to ensure an accessible electoral process, including a range of voting tools, dates, and locations to participate in the Ward 1 by-election. To arrange for at-home voting, please contact elections@cambridge.ca.

Advance voting for the election begins on November 1 at 10 a.m. at Lang’s Community Health Centre.

Ward 1 residents should expect to receive their Ward 1 Voter Notification Letter in mid-late October. If residents do not receive a Voter Notification Letter by November 1, they may attend an advance poll or City Hall to add themselves to the Voters’ List. The Municipality is not responsible for the Voters’ List, the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation provides the Voters’ List to the Municipality. Any inaccuracies require that a voter update their information through the City, at one of the polls or by visiting City Hall.

Be sure to bring your Voter Notification Letter or identification with your citizenship and address to a polling station to vote.

The City of Cambridge Ward 1 By-election will be available to eligible voters through internet voting beginning October 30, 2023, until November 13, 2023, and at two advance polls on November 1, 2023, and November 4, 2023, and four locations on November 13, 2023.
