Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic will begin to wind down in September

Waterloo Region – Cambridge Pinebush, Waterloo Region’s largest vaccination clinic will reduce operations after August 31. Starting September 4, the Cambridge Pinebush location will be in operation two days a week. Anyone who still needs a first or second dose of Pfizer or Moderna can attend the Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. or Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who’s helped make the Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic an enormous success,” said Vickie Murray, Operations Lead for the Waterloo Region Vaccine Distribution Task Force. “From the beginning of the vaccine rollout when we began immunizing health care professionals and our most vulnerable residents at the hospital, until more recently when we’ve been vaccinating thousands of residents every week at the Cambridge Pinebush site, hundreds of clinic staff and volunteers have made an important life-saving impact on the residents of our community. I would especially like to thank all the physicians, pharmacists, nurses, administrative staff, students and volunteers from Grand River Hospital and other organizations across Waterloo Region who can celebrate the overwhelming success of the Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic.”

The Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic has had the capacity to administer approximately 3,000 doses of vaccine per day. As well as keeping this vaccination clinic in operation two days a week for the reduced number of people requiring a first or second dose, the site will have the capacity to ramp up operations should it be required.

“Throughout the pandemic, we’ve had the invaluable support of Grand River Hospital leadership, staff and volunteers to operate the largest vaccination clinic in Waterloo Region,” said Shirley Hilton, Deputy Chief of Waterloo Regional Police Service and head of the Waterloo Region Vaccine Distribution Task Force. “We are indebted to everyone who stepped up from Grand River Hospital and our other local hospitals, including those who stayed behind to care for patients while their colleagues were participating in the vaccine rollout.”

The Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic is accepting walk-ins and will honour all appointments until September 7. Beginning September 8, the appointment-based system at Cambridge Pinebush and The Boardwalk vaccination clinics will be eliminated. Vaccinations will be available on a walk-in basis only. Anyone with an appointment after September 7 has been contacted to make alternative arrangements to get the vaccine.

Every Wednesday, an Indigenous immunizer will be available for indiviuals with questions about health, culture and vaccine hesitancy.

The Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic will be closed September 1-3. The new days and hours of operation go into effect on Saturday, September 4.

Vaccines are also available at many family doctors’ offices for their patients and local pharmacies.
