Cambridge Fire wants to see your home fire escape plan
Cambridge, Ontario. March 4, 2022 – Fire escape plans are one of the most important things you can do to keep your family safe in the event of a fire. This March Break, the Cambridge Fire Department wants residents to share their home fire escape plan as part of the Plan Your Escape contest.
A fire escape plan includes two ways out of every room (usually a door and a window), going to your meeting place outside, and calling 9-1-1 once outside. Practice the plan regularly, at least twice a year. Also, make sure to have properly installed, working smoke alarms throughout the home, which provide the early warning you need to escape a fire safely.
“A fire can double in size quickly, that’s why every second counts,” said Cambridge Fire Chief Brian Arnold. “Every member of your household should know the safest way to get out of your home. Practicing your escape plan could save lives.”
To participate in the Plan Your Escape contest, participants can create a video of themselves practicing their fire escape plan. To submit your video, please tag the Cambridge Fire Department on Twitter, at @CambridgeFD, and use the hashtag #CFDescapeplan2022. Two winners will be selected and receive a 10 lb (6A 80BC) fire extinguisher. Only one entry per household. The Plan Your Escape Contest runs from March 4-19 and is open to everyone who lives in Cambridge.
