Cambridge Archives hosts ‘Tracks on the Grand’, a local history and exhibit set for Oct. 29
Cambridge, Ontario. October 6, 2016… The Cambridge Archives and Records Centre and its Archives Advisory Committee invite you to register for this year’s local history and exhibit showcase, Tracks on the Grand: Interurban Railways of Cambridge. The event is set to take place at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Cambridge City Hall Bowman Room.
Admission is free but registration is required. To register contact the Cambridge Archives and Record Centre at archives@cambridge.ca or by phone at (519) 740-4680 ext. 4621. Registration is open until Friday, Oct. 21. Space is limited, register today. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.
This year’s local history and exhibit showcase will focus on one of the earliest interurban electric lines in Canada, known at its opening in 1894 as the Galt and Preston Street Railway. The railway grew to include connections to Hespeler and Berlin and later became known as the Grand River Railway.
Showcase speakers include:
- rych mills, Waterloo Historical Society on “Lines About Electric Lines”,
- Roger Chrysler, Electric Lines Editor, Canadian Pacific Historical Association (CPHA) on “Canadian Pacific Electric Lines in the Cambridge Area”, and
- Matthew O’Neil, Project Manager, Rapid Transit, Region of Waterloo on “The History of Rapid Transit and Stage 2 LRT from Kitchener to Cambridge.”
