Bingemans vaccination clinics administer 55,259 doses during vaccine rollout

Waterloo Region – Now that the vaccination clinic at Bingemans Conference Centre has closed, the Region of Waterloo is celebrating a partnership that resulted in 55,259 doses of the COVID-19 being administered to residents.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the Bingemans team for their support during the pandemic,” said Chair Karen Redman of the Region of Waterloo. “Bingemans hosted our highly efficient hockey-hub model and very popular drive-thru clinics. The venue and the Bingemans team, as well as the countless staff and community volunteers, allowed us to expand vaccine availability at some of the most critical times in the pandemic.”

Bingemans opened vaccination clinics on very short notice at three different times during the vaccine rollout. Starting in July 2021, Bingemans hosted drive-thru vaccination clinics that were particularly appealing to individuals with mobility challenges who found it easier to get vaccinated in the comfort of their own vehicle.

Also in July 2021, Bingemans hosted an “Every Dose Counts” weekend, where the new hockey-hub model was introduced to Waterloo Region. This new clinic model helped the Vaccine Distribution Task Force ramp up the administration of vaccines. That particular weekend the vaccination clinic at Bingemans reached a milestone of most doses administered at a clinic on a single day: 4,904 doses. (This number has since been surpassed.) The hockey-hub model returned to Bingemans just before the December 2021 holiday season due to the rapidly evolving situation with Omicron and efforts to administer third doses as quickly as possible.

“The entire Bingemans team has been proud to be able to aid the success of the region’s vaccination efforts and initiatives with the drive-thru experiences and use of our convenient event facilities,” said Mark Bingeman, President of Bingemans. “The vaccination team continues to work over and above expectations for the health and safety of our community.”

The Region of Waterloo’s partnership with Bingemans remains open should the location be needed for the administration of vaccines in the future.
