Bagged yard waste collection is ending for the year

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo’s curbside collection program for bagged yard waste is almost over for the year.

•  In the Kitchener and Townships, the last week for yard waste collection is November 18 to 22. 
• In Cambridge and Waterloo, the last week for yard waste collection is November 25 to 29.

After curbside yard waste collection ends, residents can place yard waste out for collection with their garbage on their scheduled garbage collection day, but each yard waste bag, can or bundle will count as one garbage item under the garbage limit. Please note that garbage tags can be used for garbage only, not yard waste.

Yard waste can also be brought in to the waste sites in Cambridge (201 Savage Drive) or Waterloo (925 Erb Street West, Gate 2) for composting, and fees will apply. Both waste sites are open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All yard waste collected curbside or dropped off is composted, and the finished compost will be available next year to residents for their gardens. Yard waste collected with garbage after the program finishes will be landfilled.

Yard waste can be put out for curbside collection in paper bags or in a standard garbage can with either a yard waste sticker on the can or bright coloured ribbons tied onto the can handles. 

• There is no limit to the number of yard waste bags or cans that can be set out during the yard waste collection program.
• Yard waste in plastic bags cannot be collected (plastic bags do not compost). 
• Branches must be tied into bundles no longer than 92 centimeters (three feet). 
• Maximum weight for each bag, can or bundle is 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
