Annual Heritage Showcase
Waterloo Region - The Waterloo Regional Heritage Foundation will host its annual Heritage Showcase on Saturday, February 21st, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Conestoga Mall, 550 King Street North, Waterloo.
Heritage Showcase, open free to the public, is a day to learn about history in Waterloo Region. In celebration of Heritage Day, the third Monday in February, the general public is invited to browse displays, watch videos, view spinning and weaving demonstrations, buy pictures/maps/books/postcards, consider volunteering, and chat with staff of municipal and regional governments and volunteers from a wide variety of local heritage groups. There will also be information available on how to have your home receive a Heritage Designation and how to apply for grants to improve your heritage property.
Established in 1973, the Waterloo Regional Heritage Foundation is a non-profit organization funded through an annual grant from the Region of Waterloo. Its mandate is to promote and encourage interest in the heritage and culture of Waterloo Region. The Foundation was not only the first heritage organization set up and funded by a regional government, but it set a precedent in Canada as the first heritage organization that was allocated a substantial amount of public money by any level of government. It dispenses grants to heritage-oriented groups or persons for worthy projects, publications and privately owned heritage buildings.
