Aim High Leadership Camp Provides Valuable Lesson to Youth in Waterloo Region
Waterloo Region – Waterloo Region Housing (WRH) in collaboration with Community Justice Initiatives (CJI) is offering a Leadership Camp to children from the local community.
The Aim High Leadership Camp will provide an opportunity for children to learn about issues surrounding self-esteem, bullying, conflict and leadership.
“This camp will help create a safer, healthier community through communication and collaboration with different community support organizations,” said Wendy Meeks, Community Mediation Service Coordinator at Community Justice Initiatives.
“We’re excited to help teach local youth about working together while giving them basic problem and conflict solving skills,” added Deb Schlichter, Director of Housing at the Region of Waterloo.
Each day, children between the ages of six to 14 will learn about a new theme through activities and exercises taught by representatives from Waterloo Region Housing and Community Justice Initiatives.
On the final day of Leadership Camp, students will hear from community mentor and Resource Officer Cst. Matt Halliday from Waterloo Regional Police Services (WRPS) who will present them with their graduation certificates. Deb Schlichter, the Director of Housing for the Region of Waterloo, and Irwin Peters, the Manager of Waterloo Region Housing will also be in attendance.
