Advanced Notice of Construction - Kingston Road from Harwood Avenue to Galea Drive, Town of Ajax

The Regional Municipality of Durham is preparing for the construction of the Kingston Road median Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project along Kingston Road (Highway 2) from approximately 300 metres west of Harwood Avenue to Galea Drive in the Town of Ajax. The proposed work will include the following:

• Reconstruction of the existing pavement along with designated median BRT lanes.
• Off-road asphalt cycle tracks in the boulevards.
• Construction of four (4) median bus stop platforms.
• Modifications to the existing traffic signal and crosswalks, including accessibility improvements.
• Improved roadway and boulevard lighting.
• Watermain construction.
• Sanitary sewer construction.

Advanced tree removals have been completed earlier this year. The proposed BRT construction work is currently anticipated to commence in July 2025 and be completed by end of 2026. Additional notices will be issued before construction to confirm the exact start date and contact information for Regional staff. During construction, the Region will also arrange public information centres (PICs) to provide further details about the Bus Rapid Transit program.
