A new Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) depot is now open in Cambridge

Waterloo Region –A new drop-off depot to dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW) has opened at the Cambridge waste site (201 Savage Drive).   Now residents can choose either the Cambridge or the Waterloo waste sites to drop off their household hazardous chemicals.

Household hazardous waste (HHW) includes cleaning products, paints and varnishes, lawn and garden products, expired medicines, etc., as well as batteries, propane tanks and compact fluorescent light bulbs (bulbs up to four feet).   For a complete list of acceptable items, please refer to our website, www.regionofwaterloo.ca/waste

Household chemicals should be handled carefully and disposed of safely. These should not go into the garbage.  To dispose of these at one of our HHW depots, keep them in their original container, securely closed, and simply drive through and drop off the items.  At the Cambridge depot, residents can place items in the red totes provided and slide the totes into the building.  At the Waterloo HHW depot, simply place items on the counter.  Some items can be recycled, such as paint which is reused to make new paint.

The Cambridge (201 Savage Drive) HHW depot is open the same hours as the Waterloo (925 Erb Street West, Gate 2) HHW depot:  Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  There is no cost if bringing in a separate load of HHW.  If bringing in a load of mixed material for disposal, scale fees may apply.    A maximum of 25 litres of paint can be dropped off per visit.  These depots are for residential HHW only, business waste is not accepted.

Residents can find other free drop-off locations for household hazardous waste at www.makethedrop.ca.
