A Community Breastfeeding Celebration

On September 15, 2013 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, the Community Breastfeeding Alliance of Waterloo Region is hosting a free community event to celebrate breastfeeding and breastfeeding successes in the Waterloo Region.

What’s to celebrate?

  • Breastfeeding is the natural method of feeding infants as it provides optimal nutrition, immunological and emotional benefits for the growth and development of infants.
  • The City of Kitchener has declared all facilities managed by the City of Kitchener to be breastfeeding-friendly and continues to work towards providing welcoming environments for mothers to nurse. The City of Kitchener endorsement of breastfeeding-friendly facilities supports the rights of women to breastfeed anytime, anywhere.
  • The peer-based program, Breastfeeding Buddies, which provides caring encouragement and support for breastfeeding mothers, is celebrating its tenth anniversary. We recognize and wish to celebrate and express appreciation for the many committed Breastfeeding Buddy volunteers and supporters.
  • Waterloo Region is fortunate to have Grand River Hospital achieve the prestigious Baby- Friendly Initiative designation awarded by the Breastfeeding Committee for Canada. The Baby-Friendly Initiative is a global effort launched by the World Health Organization and UNICEF to implement practices that protect, promote and support breastfeeding.

Any member of the community who has an interest in protecting, supporting and promoting breastfeeding is invited to join this celebration. There will be refreshments, door prizes, activities for children, information booths and the company of breastfeeding champions to enjoy.
