Arena and Ice Rentals

You can rent ice rinks and meeting rooms at our recreation facilities within the City of St. Catharines throughout all seasons. View available ice rink rental time at ActiveSTC.

To rent an ice rink, first check availability at ActiveSTC.

To reserve ice time, please make a request through our online reservation portal via ActiveSTC

Please note, ice that is not allocated to seasonal users, is available on a first come, first serve basis.

Ice for 5 is a NEW program which allows five participants and one coach to use half a sheet of ice for $75 (plus insurance). This program runs Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. To book, please connect with the bookings team at Seymour Hannah Arena at ice@stcatharines.ca and 905.688.5601 ext. 1937.

Rental ice fees

Prime time arena rental fees are:

  • Adults/Private – $250.75
  • Mini rink (half-hour) – $29.85

Prime time hours for arena rentals are:

  • Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Weekends from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and statutory holidays
  • All of July and August

Non-prime time arena rentals fees are:

  • Adults/Private – $146.60
  • Mini rink (half hour) – $23.40

Non-prime time hours for arena rentals are:

  • Monday to Friday from midnight to 5 p.m.
  • Weekends from midnight to 7 a.m.
  • Daily from 11 p.m. to midnight
  • September 1 to June 30

All ice rentals are subject to a $11.30 per hour surcharge. The surcharge for the mini rink is $3.40 an hour. All rentals require additional insurance rates depending on age, group size and activity. HST is included.

Arena dry sports floor use

Our dry sport floor includes uses for lacrosse, ball hockey and more. These fees include:

  • Youth games, practices or non-events – $85.55
  • Adult games, practices or non-events – $105.80
  • Event rates (commercial for dry or ice) – $244.20

Meeting room fees

There are a variety of meeting rooms that can be rented within our City arenas. These options include:

  • Large meeting rooms for 56 to 150 people – $42.20(i.e. Meridian Room, Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre)
  • Small meeting rooms for 55 people or less – $26.50 (i.e. Half the Meridian room, Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre)

Please note the fees for meeting rooms include tax.

General rental policies

If you are renting an arena or ice rink, you must follow our rental policies, including:

  • Persons must be 19 years old or older to book city facilities
  • Payment is due for all rentals at time of booking
  • Adult supervision is required for all youth rentals

This policy also established formulas and standards that will help allocate minimum requirements of ice time to all qualified user groups in the City.

Arena locations and amenities

The Bill Burgoyne Arena is located at 129 Linwell Road.

This arena holds a single ice rink on a concrete slab floor (approximately 185 feet long by 85 feet wide) with seating and standing room capacity for 800 spectators. This facility is accessible and easily accessed by public transit.

Features of the Bill Burgoyne Arena include:

  • Concession stand
  • Seating and bleachers
  • Timekeeping clock
  • Public address (PA) system
  • Lighted parking
  • Automatic external defibrillators

Merritton Centennial Arena is located at 5 Park Avenue.

This arena holds a single ice rink on a concrete slab floor.

Features of the Merritton Centennial Arena include:

  • Concession Stand
  • Seating
  • Timekeeping Clock
  • Automatic external defibrillator

The Meridian Centre is located on 1 David S. Howes Way.

This arena is a great place to rent for hockey tournaments, figure skating, corporate or family events. If you wish to rent the Meridian Centre for an event, send Meridian Centre an email to book your ice time.

Ice rentals at Meridian Centre include:

  • Two change rooms 30 minutes before and after ice time
  • 50 minutes of ice time per hour rented (10 minutes for ice maintenance)
  • Nets for hockey
  • Scoreboard access
  • Ability to play music through in-house system

Meridian rental policies

Policies for renting the Meridian Centre include:

  • Everyone must wear a CSA approved helmet for any hockey, shiny, pick-up hockey, or any rentals involving equipment on the ice
  • Guests 14 and under must always wear a CSA-approved helmet
  • No outside food, beverage or alcohol is permitted on the property
  • Meridian Centre is a smoke-free property
  • All rentals must enter through the Community Doors of the arena
  • Please carefully read all policies and procedures outlined in the Ice Rental Contract

The Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre is located on 240 St. Paul St. West.

This arena boasts features including:

  • Four NHL sized ice rinks (Wormald, Masse, Keen and Lopinski Mini Rink)
  • Parks, Recreation and Culture Services administration offices
  • Lookout Sports Lounge
  • Concession booths
  • Sports store
  • Sports clinic

This facility is accessible with Braille signage and is easily accessed by public transit. This arena also offers features including:

  • Free Wi-fi access
  • Licensed restaurant
  • Sports store
  • PA system
  • Air conditioning
  • Automatic external defibrillators

Walker's Sport and Abilities Centre is located at Canada Games Park at 2021 Canada Games Way in Thorold

These facilities include the Walker Sports and Abilities Centre, consisting of two NHL-sized ice-rinks (one seating approximately 1200, the other about 200).
