St. Catharines Museum Advisory Committee

The Museum Advisory Committee is a volunteer committee established to advise and assist City Council and staff on museum policy development, mandate review, collection oversight, and to act as public advocates in support of the Museum’s mandate.

Meetings

The Museum Advisory Committee meets approximately six times per year, or at the discretion of the Chair. Upcoming meeting dates can be found on our meeting calendar. For more information read the committee's agendas and minutes to stay informed.

The Committee shall conduct its meetings in accordance with and otherwise comply with the City of St. Catharines Simplified Meeting Procedures for advisory bodies.

Purpose

The Museum Advisory Committee will:

  • Act as the Museum’s Collections Committee.
  • Review current Museum policies and provide recommendations for changes.
  • Act as public advocates of the Museum’s activities, including supporting fundraising and sponsorship development, attending Museum events and enhancing public awareness of the Museum in the community.

Composition

The Committee shall be comprised of up to 5 citizen members as follows:

  • Individuals who are actively supporting and encouraging the on-going enrichment of the Museum’s programs and collection, such as current volunteers, members etc. and others who can demonstrate an active interest and participation in museums and history related events or programs; or
  • Individuals who have qualifications and experience related to museum policy development, strategic planning, education and training, public programming and community engagement, cultural tourism, collections development and collection management.

Reporting structure

This Committee reports directly to Council.

Administrative support to the Museum Advisory Committee shall be provided by Community, Recreation and Culture Services, which shall assign a Staff Liaison to the Committee.

Additional staff resources as required from time to time will be provided by the department.
