Weeds and Tall Grass By-Law
The City of St. Catharines' Maintenance of Grasses and Weeds By-law regulates the length of grasses and weeds on your property. You are required to cut or remove grasses and weeds that are 20 cm or higher. This applies to both your property and the abutting boulevard.
Submit a by-law complaint
You can submit a by-law infraction complaint if a property has weeds or grasses that exceed 20 cm in height. You can report an issue around weeds and tall grass online.
Once we receive a complaint, we'll follow these steps:
- A By-law Inspector will visit the property to see if there is a legitimate complaint
- If the By-law Inspector determines there is a by-law violation, we will send a letter notifying the property owner and provide a date for when they need to be compliant
- If the grass or weeds are not cut by the compliance date, the City will cut the weeds and grasses and send a bill to the property owner to pay for the service
If at any point during the process the long grass and weeds are cut by the property owner, we will close the complaint and take no further action.
