Trillium Awards
Each year, the City of St. Catharines recognizes individuals who have helped beautify our community through the Trillium Awards. Review each award category and learn how to submit a nomination. The Trillium Awards help continue the tradition of the City of St. Catharines as the Garden City of Canada.
Trillium Awards honour Garden City green thumbs
Congratulations to the recipients for our 2025 Trillium Awards.
The City honoured 14 properties, selected from 90 community nominations, with Trillium Awards, recognizing outstanding efforts from residents to help beautify their neighbourhoods through creative and environmentally sensitive front-yard landscaping.

Award categories and details
Check out the award categories and descriptions for each of the Trillium Awards. The panel of judges will only evaluate front-yard garden nominations.
We issue two Civic Beautification Awards for every ward in the City of St. Catharines. For more information view our ward map. This award goes to a property that has put in effort to create a front yard landscape that is environmentally sensitive while contributing to the beautification of Garden City.
Evaluation criteria
We'll review the following criteria during the evaluation process:
- Design features, including originality and creative thought
- Use of native trees and shrubs
- Pollinator plants
- Use of mulch or rain barrels
- Implementing edible gardens into the landscape while contributing to neighbourhood curb appeal
- Special features, highlights or extraordinary efforts
This award is given to an individual or community organization for making a significant contribution to greening the community and inspiring others.
If you live in St. Catharines, you can submit a photo nomination of your favourite front garden. We will choose the top photos and videos and give the community an opportunity to vote for the best garden.
