Photo Gallery

A photo gallery is a great way to display a series of images online.

Access Photo Gallery Manager

To access the Photo Gallery Manager from the i:Create Content Management System (i:Create) workbench (back end):

  1. Select “More+” from the Utility Bar
  2. Click “Photo Gallery Manager” from the dropdown menu

This will take you to the Photo Gallery Manager where you will see a list of all existing photo galleries.

Create a photo gallery

To create a new photo gallery that you can post to your website:

  1. Navigate to the Photo Gallery Manager in i:Create
  2. Click the “Add New” button located at the top of the page
  3. Complete all necessary fields on the “Photo Gallery Details” page
  4. Select the “Save” button to add the new photo gallery

When you add a new photo gallery, you'll need to complete the “Photo Gallery Details” page.

Available options:

Gallery Name

In the “Gallery Name” field, enter a name for your photo gallery. The name should describe the content of the gallery because this is how you will identify the gallery when you embed it on a content page.

Gallery Type

From the “Gallery Type” dropdown menu, select the type of gallery you want to create. You will likely only see one option, “IOS Slider.”

Gallery Size

From the “Gallery Size” dropdown menu, select the appropriate size for this gallery. Gallery sizes will vary by website. They will often include a pixel size and descriptive name, e.g., “Portrait 480x640.”

Credit Label

In the “Credit Label” field, you can write the text that will appear before the photo credit, e.g.:

  • Courtesy of
  • Provided by

Display Captions

Select the “Display Captions” to add a small editable text area across the bottom of each image in your gallery. This allows you to add comments, captions or a title to each photo.

Display Thumbnails

Select the “Display Thumbnails” checkbox if you want to add a row of smaller images under the main picture. This provides an easy navigation tool and preview of upcoming images for your visitors.

Auto Rotate

Select the “Auto Rotate” checkbox if you want the images to automatically rotate to the next image after a set time-period.

Once you select “Auto Rotate” the following options will be available:

  • Slide Display Time
  • Include Pause Button

This allows you to set how long each image will display during the auto rotate as well as the ability to add a pause button so visitors can look a specific image for longer than the set rotation time. Pause buttons should always be added for accessibility.

Add images to a photo gallery

To add images to a photo gallery:

  1. Navigate to the Photo Gallery Manager in i:Create
  2. Select the “Edit” button next to the photo gallery you'd like to add images to, which will take you to the “Photo Gallery Details” page.
  3. In the “Active Photos” section, click the “Add New” button.
  4. Once you've completed all of the necessary fields, select the “Save” button to finalize your image

Complete the following fields to upload an image:

Select the “Use Original Image” checkbox if the image size already matches the dimensions set up for your photo gallery. This may result in better quality images. If not, you can use the edit tools in the Photo Gallery Manager to crop your images to the appropriate size.

To find the image size for your gallery, see the “Gallery Size” field under the “Photo Gallery Details.”

Click the “Choose File” or “Browse” button (label varies by browser). Select the image file from your computer that you want to upload. Once you've selected a photo or photos, click the “Open” button and you will return to the “Active Photos” screen. To continue, select the “Upload” button. The image will upload. For larger image files, this may take several minutes.

If you select multiple files to upload, you'll need to process each photo individually. These files can be found in the “Unprocessed Photos” section of the photo gallery.

If you selected the “Use Original Image” checkbox, you won't need to crop the image. If you didn't select that checkbox, you can crop the image to fit the photo gallery sizing. Once you are happy with the image, select the “Crop” button.

When cropping your image, we recommend that you leave the “Constrain Crop Proportions to Gallery Size” checkbox selected. This means there won't be any white space around your photo and it will crop to the appropriate size. You may need to crop more of the photo than you initially intended. The clear area that looks like the original image demonstrates that area of the image that will remain after it is cropped. You can move this field by dragging it to another part of the image or you can click the boarders to make the cropped image smaller or larger.

In the “Image Caption” field, enter a caption for the image. This field will only display if you selected “Display Captions” when you created the photo gallery. The image caption appears at the bottom of the image and is usually a title or description of the image.

In the “Image Description or Alt Text” field, describe the image in plain language in 100 characters or less. This description will be read to visitors using assistive devices, such as screen readers.

Select the “Add Photo Credit” checkbox if you want to insert a line below the image description that credits the photographer or donor of the image. If this is selected, a “Photo Credit” field will appear where you can enter the name of the photographer, artist, etc.

Select the “Link” checkbox if you want to make the image a clickable link. Once you select this option, a few more fields will appear. Enter the website URL address in the “Link URL” field. This should be the website URL that you want to link to. Make sure that the clickable image is created in an accessible way for those using an assistive device. Select the “New Window?” checkbox if you'd like the “Link URL” to open in a new window. We recommend that you use a new window whenever you link to an external website. In the “Link Title Text” field, enter a description of where the link will take you. This text will be visible if you move your cursor over the image.

You'll need to follow this process for every image that you upload to a photo gallery.

Publish a photo gallery

Once you've created a photo gallery and added images to the photo gallery, you need to publish the gallery before it will appear on your website.

To publish a photo gallery:

  1. Navigate to the Photo Gallery Manager on i:Create
  2. Find the photo gallery you want to publish from the list of photo galleries
  3. Select the “Edit” button next to the photo gallery and this will take you to the “Photo Gallery Details” page
  4. Click the “Publish” button

Now that your photo gallery has been published, you can share the photo gallery on one of the content pages on your website.

Embed a photo gallery

To embed a photo gallery onto a content page:

  1. Navigate to the appropriate page from the i:Create workbench (back end)
  2. Place your cursor where you want to insert the gallery
  3. Click the “Insert Photo Gallery” button from the Edit Toolbar
  4. Select the name of the gallery you want to insert
  5. Click the “Insert” button, which will add a note to your page that says “Photo Gallery: Name of Photo Gallery will appear here on the public site”
  6. You will need to publish this page in order to view the photo gallery

Galleries are visible only on live pages of your website.
