Paste and Insert Text

You can insert or paste formatted or plain text content from another source or from within the content on the page in the i:Create Content Management System (i:Create).

Edit Toolbar

If you don't want to use keyboard shortcuts or need to paste as plain text, you can use the options provided in the i:Create Edit Toolbar.

The Paste as Plain Text button strips all formatting from the text and just pastes the words, e.g., if you copy a bulleted list and then paste it as plain text, the bullets would no longer appear.

To paste as plain text:

  1. Place the cursor where you want to paste the text
  2. Select the “Paste as Plain Text” button from the “Edit Toolbar”

Your text should now appear on the page.

Pasting as plain text will remove:

  • Numbered and bulleted lists
  • Italics
  • Bold
  • Underline
  • Fonts
  • Text sizing

Some formatting can be re-added using the i:Create Edit Toolbar.

The Paste from Formatted Document button keeps accessible formatting from the original text when pasting into i:Create.

To paste as formatted text:

  1. Place your cursor where you want to paste the text
  2. Select the “Paste from Formatted Document” button from the “Edit Toolbar”
  3. Paste the text into the “Paste from Formatted Document” pop-up box using the Ctrl+V keyboard shortcut
  4. Click the “Insert” button to add the text to your document

By pasting the content into the “Paste from Formatted Document” pop-up box, i:Create will keep accessible formatting, including:

  • Headings
  • Hyperlinks
  • Numbered and bulleted lists

Keyboard shortcuts

You can use the Ctrl+X (cute), Ctrl+C (copy) and Ctrl+V (paste) keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste content in i:Create. This option will automatically include some formatting. To avoid potential accessibility challenges, keyboard shortcuts should never be used to copy and paste text from formatted sources, i.e. Word documents, PDFs and websites.
