Create a Google Analytics 4 Property for a Site that Doesn't Have a Universal Analytics Property

The following setup will guide you through the creation and configuration of a new Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property when a Universal Analytics (UA) property doesn't already exist for your i:Create site.

The GA4 property will start to gather analytics data from the date that it has been setup and properly configured.

Creating a new Google Analytics 4 property

Follow the instructions below to create your GA4 property using the GA4 setup assistant wizard. 

  1. In Google Analytics, select "Admin" (lower left).
  2. In the "Account" column, ensure that your account is selected.
  3. In the "Property" column, click on "Create Property".

  4. Enter a name for the property (i.e., "My Business, Inc. website") and select the reporting time zone and currency. Click "Next".

  5. Select your industry category and business size and then select "Create".

  6. Next, click on "Web" to add a web stream.

  7. Set up the web stream by defining the website URL and giving the stream a name. Click on the cog icon in the "Enhanced measurement" section to ensure all measurements are enabled.

  8. In the "Enhanced measurements" settings, ensure that the "Site search" settings are properly listed. Select "Show advanced settings" in the "Site search" section and enter the proper search term query parameter. For example, "cludoquery" (Cludo search) and "search" (Google search), etc. Click "Save" once finished and then click on "Create stream" to create your new stream.

  9. Next, you will need to grab the new GA4 property script and add it to the existing website. Select "See your GA4 property".
  10. In the following screen, open the "Global site tag" accordion and copy the script.

  11. Next, login to i:Create and select "Page List" in the top navigation bar.

  12. Select the the "Includes" section within the left-hand vertical menu.

  13. In the search bar, search for the page named "Google Analytics" or "Google-Analytics".

  14. Select the page by checking the checkbox to the left of the page title, then click the "HTML" button.

  15. A dialog box will open with the HTML content of the Google Analytics page. Add the script you copied from the Global site tag accordion into the content box and click "Submit".

  16. Next, publish the page by selecting "Publish".

  17. Select "Publish Immediately" then select "Save changes". The GA4 script is now added to your site.
