Firefighter Recruitment

The Smiths Falls Fire Department is seeking individuals who are dedicated, professional and committed to public safety to join the team as a Volunteer Firefighter. We are committed to recruiting qualified team members with a diverse set of skills, knowledge, experience, and backgrounds.

The Smiths Falls Fire Department is a progressive composite fire department located in Eastern Ontario, primarily responsible for the protection of lives and property within the Town of Smiths Falls and surrounding area.

The Smiths Falls Fire Department is a member of the Lanark County Mutual Aid program with the following municipalities:

  • Beckwith Township
  • Tay Valley Township
  • Town of Carleton Place
  • Township of Drummond/North Elmsley
  • Township of Mississippi Mills
  • Town of Perth
  • Township of Lanark Highlands
  • Township of Montague

Additionally, the Smiths Falls Fire Department provides Automatic Aid to the Township of Drummond/North Elmsley (North Elmsley Ward) and Rideau Lakes Township (South Elmsley Ward).

Training Level Requirements

  • NFPA 1001 - Firefighter Levels I & II Program
  • NFPA 1072 - Hazmat Awareness and Operations Course
  • Firefighter Medical Training
  • Class D Drivers License with Z Air Brake Endorsement
  • Pleasure Craft Operators Card

The Smiths Falls Fire Department recruits both trained and untrained firefighters. All untrained firefighters will receive training to meeting the department's requirements.
