Ever wanted to get paid to play? Or have you ever wanted to work for the most AWESOME camp around? Well hit that apply button because you are going to want be a Camp Counselor for Camp Awesome this summer!
This recruitment is specific for a Camp Awesome Counselor. Camp runs all 10 weeks of summer from June 1st-Aug 7th (M-F). Camp format is Day Camp - 9:00am-2:00pm, and After Care - 2:00pm-5:30pm. Counselors should be available for most of the summer, but have the ability to request time off. Staff training will be the Friday and possibly Sunday before Camp begins.
The most qualified applicants will be invited to complete supplemental questions and then an interview.
The hours will vary from 5-35 hours/week and shifts will vary depending on availability. Most staff will work 15-20 hours a week. We will also have subs that fill in occasionally.
Recreation Leaders will learn to:
• Lead, teach, demonstrate, and officiate games, crafts, and other activities at Camp Awesome and related programs
• Assist with daily operations, including developing, promoting and implementing programs
• Set up all necessary equipment
• Perform facility clean up
• Supervise and interact with participants/campers and parents
• Supervise, model and monitor compliance with safety and sport / game / facility rules
• Assist in maintaining attendance and activity records
• Learn how to use recreation enrollment software to enroll participants and create rosters
• Assist monitoring and maintaining equipment and supplies
• Issue equipment and supplies and collect for storage
• Provide information and direction on activities
• Provide encouragement, feedback and counseling regarding participation
• Participate in staff meetings and training sessions
• Make recommendations on program activities
Applicants must have the ability to: lead participants, communicate activity objectives and rules clearly and effectively; provide information and direction to a wide variety of age groups; conduct games and activities following established rules, guidelines and time limits; learn, retain and use safety rules and regulations; provide verbal and summarized written feedback on activities; lift at least 25 lbs.
Applicants should have a valid Driver’s License and/or reliable transportation to get to the Lafayette Community Center.
Employees must be trained in first aid (Opportunities provided through employment).
